Design
and Layout
|
|
| |
The
design and layout of each book is the exclusive domain
of the publisher or the self-publishing author. We play
no role in this and take no responsibility for the "look"
of the book, editing the book's content or any omissions.
Having said that, it is important to note that there
are some limitations as to what can be accomplished
successfully with POD technology and these limitations
must be borne in mind when planning a POD project. POD
books can be physically attractive and look like most
other paperback books in bookstores. They are also quite
durable. The POD process, however, is not suitable for
book designs that require color images on the inside
pages, glossy text paper, high resolution halftones,
embossed or die-cut covers, or hardcovers. The best
results are achieved where a book is information-intensive
(i.e., text, line drawings, and lower resolution halftones)
rather than image-intensive (art books, for example).

File
Preparation
|
|
| |
File
preparation for on-demand printing is exactly the same
as it is for offset printing. All the same guidelines
apply when it comes to setting the page size in your
layout program, ordering pages, laying out the cover,
accommodating bleeds, including of fonts and graphics,
building vector and bitmap graphics, determining what
resolution and color mode to use, etc. |

Preferred
Applications
|
|
| |
The
layout applications we fully support are QuarkXpress
and Adobe Pagemaker, running MacOS or PC. If you are
not using one of these applications, we highly recommend
exporting or saving your documents as PDF files. Even
if you do use these programs, there are many benefits
to going the PDF route. A PDF file preserves all the
fonts, formatting, graphics and color of any source
document. We have an extensive PDF Help area to assist
you. |

Trouble-Free
Files
|
|
| |
You
will save money if your electronic files are trouble-free.
The best way to ensure this is to submit them in the
PDF format, with all fonts and graphics embedded. |
