Q: What Page Size Should I use?

A: You should always use a page size that equals the desired finished size of the document. For example, if you are building an 8.5 x 11 booklet that will be printed 17 x 11 (this is referred to as the flat size), your Document Page Size should be 8.5 x 11. (See Illustration Below)

Q: How do I layout a book cover?

A: The layout of your book cover should be as it will be printed (flat layout). It should include the back cover, spine and front cover. (See Illustration Below)

Hint: Use the column guides in Quark to get precise spine guides.

  1. In Quark select Page > Display > Master(A).
  2. Now select Page > Master Guides
  3. Insert 2 into the Columns field
  4. Insert the spine width measurement in the Gutter Width field. Your Quark Guides are now set for the correct measurements of your cover. Please use the Spine Calculator for spine width specification.
